The world is thinking about energy resources and spending billion of dollars just to make alternate energy sources, that is heavily available and cheap at cost. Fortunately, Solar energy is the answer of world’s greatest concern. And, this energy can be used through Solar panel, which is used to produce electricity to remote appliances. Solar panel is also used for home purposes.
Steps involved in building Solar panel are not complicated. Starting what you need to do is cut two rectangular pieces of copper sheets and their size can be compared with a stove burner. Then we need to wash off corrosion so clean one piece of copper sheets for that we can use sand paper. After that, put that copper sheet down, on the burner at maximum heat. The color will change towards black. It’s really important to monitor this transformation of color closely, because chemically it’s going through oxidizing. It has to be burned till a thick coating of black material is gained. After being heated up so much the copper sheet is left alone till it cools down, it won’t take much time, normally about 20-30 min. Then once again comes the washing part, using water the oxidized black coating should be removed with hands.
The left over part, which is the copper layer we’ve created, is the required sheet which is needed to build a Solar panel. Now to create a makeshift container, we need a plastic bottle after cutting off its top. Coming back to the second copper sheet, we left in the beginning, bend it this much that it fits with the contour of our bottle, sliding the second piece of copper, place along the inside of our bottle.
The process will be repeated as it is with the first processed piece of copper. These two copper pieces must not touch each other. After that, connecting an alligator-clip lead to each one of the pieces of copper and also connect the alligator-clip lead from the second piece of copper to its positive terminal of the micrometer. Then, stir some salt in hot water till it’s completely mixed. Carefully keeping the alligator clip leads dry; steadily pour the salted water into the bottle. About an inch of the copper piece should be left above the water line. Check the needle on the micro-ammeter.
The apparatus we have constructed is basically a battery, so some charge is bound to be there, no matter it’s in dark or light. Place the apparatus in sunlight and observe how the charge increases as the cell converts the sun’s energy to electricity. So here you go with your very own Solar Panel. Amazing isn’t it?
